Antur Insurance has raised £1,500 for Fishguard charity POINT from it's golf day at Newport Golf Club.

Antur welcomed 68 players on the day to compete in an individual stableford golf tournament followed by a dinner and auction in the evening with top prizes including tickets for the Ashes England V Australia match.

Pat Davies (above left), chair of the board of trustees at POINT, said "We're over the moon with the money that Antur has raised - it's a fantastic amount that will really benefit the young people we work with.

Based at the Pop Works in Fishguard, POINT is a drop-in centre which provides more than 300 11-25 year olds with help and advise from youth workers and a nurse.  The centre has computers, games, a homework area and also runs art and music workshops, talks on drug abuse, alcohol abuse and sexual health.

We're extremely pleased to raise four times the amount from last year for a local charity that's doing very worthwhile things in Pembrokeshire.  The golf day was very enjoyable and we had some great feedback from those who took part.

Neyland Cricketer Awarded Antur Player Of the Month

Neyland Cricket Club’s Andrew Miller has been awarded the Antur Player of the Month in the Pembrokeshire County Cricket League.

Thirty-four year-old Andrew has played for Neyland Cricket Club for 27 years since making his first appearance when he was only seven years of age.  He said, “There are many excellent players in the county and I am very pleased that my performances were consistent during the month to be able to win this award.”

Andrew also captained the Pembroke County Under 19s side, and to date has made seven appearances for the Senior County team. Andrew is a fantastic and well-respected player and very much deserves to win the Antur Player of the Month award. He had an excellent month throughout May with both bat and ball.  

Antur Insurance Expands East

Antur Insurance has cemented its expansion into East Wales with the acquisition of the new office in Church Village and appointment of two new account executives. The Church Village office is the first in the East and has been located to facilitate an expansion of the business through to Cardiff, the Valleys, Gwent and beyond.

Leon Moores (above right) and Huw Jones (above left) have been appointed as account executives in the Church Village office to help Antur's plans to grow the business.

Leon, 40, of Aberdare, has 21 years' experience in the insurance industry and Huw, 34, of Pontyclun has 7 years' experience.

John Knox, Chairman of Antur, says 'Leon and Huw are both very keen and enthusiastic and have really hit the group running. They have a challenge ahead of them to get the Antur name known across the east of Wales'.

Steve James RIP

Everyone at Antur has been shocked and saddened by the tragic news that Steve James died suddenly on March 20th. Steve was a lovely man, hardworking and professional and always able to make people comfortable in his company.

Steve began his insurance career, with the prudential, at the tender age of 17 and gained his own agency at just 19 years old. A brief spell at Cleddau Insurance followed and he then joined Hedley Davies in 1997.

Steve progressed to become a Director of Hedley Davies and contributed greatly to the growing business. It was in that capacity that he was instrumental in the decision to become a founder member of the Antur group in 2001. Steve was passionate about this business and was excited about the future.

In his spare time Steve enjoyed sport. He gained a cap playing Rugby for Pembrokeshire and will be particularly remembered for his successful career as a terrific all round cricketer. Steve holds the record as Haverfordwest's longest serving captain and was chairman of the club.

Steve had a giant personality to match his frame. He had real zest for life, a great sense of humour and was much loved and respected by all who knew him. Our thoughts are particularly with his sons of whom he was so proud; Julian, Adam and Ashley, his partner Sandra, his family and friends at this time.

He will be missed but not forgotten.

Antur makes double appointment 

Antur Insurance has continued its expansion plans with the creation of two new Group Manager roles in both West and East Wales.

Sarah Kent from Haverfordwest has joined the company as Group Manager for West Wales and Lee Samuel from Clydach has been promoted to the role of Group Manager for East Wales.

Both will be responsible for supervising the group's seven offices, which stretch from Haverfordwest in the west to Church Village in the east. They will oversee strategic partnerships with insurance companies to ensure they are maximised to allow the group to offer the right cover at the right price, for everything from business insurance to car and travel insurance. They will also be responsible for maintaining high customer service levels, branch audits and sharing best practise.

Sarah Kent joins Antur Insurance from Norwich Union, where she spent over eight years managing the firm's relationship with a panel of 30 brokers across South Wales.

Lee Samuel has been with Antur for over four years, joining as a Retail Supervisor in Swansea.

Sarah and Lee take up these newly-created roles at an exciting time for the business as Antur continues to look for more branches across South Wales and to build on its customer base.

Antur sponsors local golf competition

On 8th March 2009 Antur Insurance sponsored the last of the monthly medals for Newport Links Golf Club, Pembrokeshire.  The competition was played as a league over the last 6 months. Points were awarded to the top ten in each round. The overall winners of the winter league were: 1st - Viv Griffiths with 28 points; 2nd - Steve Hodges with 26 points and 3rd - Pete Griffiths with 25 points.
